My Journey to ECU
We've put together a step-by-step checklist to make your journey even smoother.
THE ESSENTIALS - in Hong Kong
STEP 1:Check your Passport and Student VISA
Passport:Please make sure your passport is valid for at least six months prior to your arrival to Australia.
Student VISA: A valid VISA must be held before entering Australia. You can check VISA expiry date and VISA conditions in VEVO (Visa Entitlement Verification Online system). If it is expireing or has expired, please get in contact with your agent asap.

STEP 2:Retain Proof of Vaccination
All international students must be double vaccinated with a TGA approved vaccine to enter Australia.
If a student is eligible for a COVID Booster in their home country, they should have that before travelling.
However, if not eligible, students can have their COVID-19 booster shot in Western Australia. Bookings can be made on the Roll Up For WA website.
PRE-DEPARTURE - in Hong Kong
STEP 3:Book your Accommodations
Cost: $90 to $280AUD per week

Students and families often rent out furnished spare rooms in their houses and apartments, as this can be a great way to live independently without the expense of renting on your own. Use websites such as Flatmates.com.au or Student.com to search for rooms for rent in Perth.
STEP 4:Book your Flights
- Discounted flights and increased luggage allowances

- If you cannot find a flight that suits you, please feel free to consult a student travel agent available online through the portal.
STEP 5:Apply for your G2G PASS
All arrivals into WA will require an approved G2G Pass. The platform is easy to use, and even easier with these tips:
- Please choose ENROLLED STUDENT IN WA as your travel category;
- Some of the key things that the application process will require you to prove include: vaccination status, arrival details, accommodations;
- To support your application, please download your ECU Certificate of Enrolment form SIMO by going to the many link under the enrolment section;
- If needed, you can amend your flight details after G2G Pass has been approved by logging back in with your credentials;

STEP 6: Provide evidence of a negative pre-departure COVID-19 test
STEP 7: Complete Digital Passenger Declaration (DPD)
The Digital Passenger Declaration (DPD) has replaced the Australia Travel Declaration.
All passengers arriving by air into Australia should complete the DPD. You can start your DPD seven days before your flight and submit it within 72 hours prior to your departure for Australia. This is because you must provide your health information and declaration (vaccination status and COVID-19 test result) within 72 hours before your flight.
You can complete your Digital Passenger Declaration online.
STEP 8: Let us know your travel details
As soon as you know your flight and accommodation, please let us know via an email - studentsuccess@ecu.edu.au.
STEP 9:Book your free airport pick-up
ECU offers all international students arriving to Perth for semester 1,
2022 a free transfer from Perth airport to your accommodation. Book your airport transfer
at least 24 hours before (as soon as you have received a negative
pre-departure COVID-19 test result). Alternatively, you can take a taxi
or a ride share at your own cost.

ON ARRIVAL - at Perth Airport
STEP 10:Collect your welcome gift pack
Welcome to Perth! Come and say hi to StudyPerth student ambassadors at the Airport Welcome Desk.
Airport Welcome Desks will be located in Terminal 1 and Terminals 3/4 at Perth Airport. Desks will operate for all incoming passenger flights to ensure that every international student is welcomed upon arrival with a welcome gift.
STEP 11:Collect your Rapid Antigen Tests (RATs) on arrival
All international and interstate travellers will receive two RATs on arrival at Perth Airport.
All travellers will need to take a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) within 12 hours of arrival and report any positive result.
STEP 12:Get an Australian mobile number
Both Optus and Vodafone operates telecom shops at airport international arrvial, facing the exit from customs. Doing some homework around what they are offering will save you sometime at airport.
POST ARRIVAL - in your Perth accommodation
STEP 13:Take a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) within 12 hours of arrival
All travellers will need to take a home Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) within 12 hours of arrival and report any positive result. Two free RATs can be collected on arrival at Perth Airport. RAT kits are available for purchase from supermarkets, pharmacies and other selected suppliers.
If you are a confirmed positive case, you must:
- Register a postive Test result online;
- Self-isolate for a minimum of 7 days;
- At Day 7, if symptoms are still present, continue isolating until symptoms clear
- If no symptoms are present after Day 7, you can leave self-isolation. No testing is required.
STEP 14:Student VISA fee refund
The Australian Government is providing an incentive for fully vaccinated Students and Working Holiday Makers to travel to Australia as soon as possible.
As part of this, eligible Student visa holders who arrive in Australia on that visa between 19 January 2022 and 19 March 2022 will receive a refund of the first instalment of the visa application ($630 Australian Dollars) charge paid in relation to that visa.

STEP 15:Download Safe WA
WA Government has developed a free app, SafeWA, which is a digital contact register system.
Through a unique venue QR code, SafeWA supports efficient COVID-19 contact tracing, should it be necessary, by providing a digital register of contact details for patrons attending venues.

STEP 16:Obtain your ECU Student card and SmartRider
All ECU students are required to have an ECU student ID card, which not only identifies you but gives you access to a range of services that support your study, including:
- Print, copy and scan services across all three campuses
- ECU Library services on campus
- Secure access to areas and buildings on campus relevant to your course, including the eLab
- TransPerth SmartRider Card, which is also valid on TransBunbury and TransBusselton.
Where to get a student ID card?
You can get your student ID card from any of our eLab counters on each campus during counter service times. Your photo will be taken and your card will be produced while you wait.

STEP 17:Apply for Accommodation Subsidy
If you are an international student, enrolled in a course of 12 months or longer commencing in Semester one 2022, have arrived in Western Australia from an international location and were not in Western Australia for study purposes anytime in 2021 you may be eligible for a subsidy to assist with your accommodation costs of $1500.
